Jeeyar Gurukulam was founded with a vision to uplift and empower tribal communities through education. The first school was established in Allampalli in 2004, followed by another in Birsaipet in 2005. The initiative was spearheaded to address the long-standing underdevelopment and lack of educational infrastructure in these remote areas of Telangana.
The region, particularly Adilabad and Nirmal districts, has historically been a stronghold of tribal communities such as Gonds, Kolam, and Pradhan. However, during the 1980s, it was also a hub for Naxal activities, witnessing one of the biggest encounters in the state’s history. Due to prolonged instability and isolation, these areas remained underdeveloped for a long time, with limited access to education and healthcare. The founder Sri Chinna Jeeyar Swamy of Jeeyar Gurukulam envisioned an educational institution that could serve as a bridge between these tribal communities and the outside world, fostering growth and transformation through quality education.
Situated in the northern tip of Telangana, Adilabad and Nirmal districts are known for their dense forests and picturesque waterfalls. However, these very geographic features also contributed to the region’s isolation, leaving tribal communities with minimal access to modern amenities, including education and healthcare.
Before the establishment of Jeeyar Gurukulam, schooling facilities were almost non-existent, and children from tribal families had little to no access to formal education. The need for the project was evident, as the lack of schools and hospitals contributed to a cycle of poverty and social stagnation. By providing free education, food, hostel facilities, transportation, uniforms, books, and stationery, Jeeyar Gurukulam has become a lifeline for these communities. The impact has been profound, transforming lives and empowering children to break free from generational poverty.
A newspaper once highlighted the success of the initiative with the headline: “Hands once holding guns are holding pens.” Today, Jeeyar Gurukulam stands as a testament to the power of education. Hundreds of children now chant slokas and engage in holistic learning, paving the way for a brighter future. Since its inception, over 13,000 students have benefited from the institution’s efforts, ensuring that the next generation of tribal youth is educated, skilled, and self-reliant.
Jeeyar Gurukulam is more than just a school; it is a beacon of hope for tribal communities. By providing free, high-quality, and value-based education, the institution has played a pivotal role in empowering thousands of children, ensuring that they step into the future with confidence and dignity. The transformation of this region—from a Naxal-dominated zone to a thriving educational hub—is a testament to the power of education, dedication, and vision
